Also, the guide will help you to identify the unique birds that you see in the lake. Meet a villager who is an expert for Sri Lankan breakfast to taste his traditional village menu. Thereafter return to the Hotel. late afternoon you can visit the famous, but very touristic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Enjoy the climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the marvelous rock fortress also known as Lion Rock is a rare jewel among the many treasures in Sri Lanka.  There are many stories as to who built the rock. Once such story is that the site was the domain of King Kashyapa whose aim was to build an impregnable fortress and within it, a heavenly abode. Others say it was a hermitage before. Rising over the dry plains of the Dambulla district, the tough climb of 1200 footsteps up this flat-topped rock ends with the most scenic bird’s-eye view of the emerald plains and leafy villages beneath. The skeletal layout of the ancient city within the fortress marvels its observers with the grandeur and complexity of 5th century urban planning of Sri Lanka.  On the way to the top one can observe the famous Sigiriya frescoes of the buxom, wasp-waisted maidens bearing flowers, amidst the wilderness and ancient ruins. The smoothly glazed ‘Mirror Wall’ located a few steps away has sealed the expressions of ancient visitors, inspired by the vibrant frescoes. The Sigiriya experience takes approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the pace at which you wish to ascent.  Tip: Remember to take a full bottle of water and some chocolate bars for hydration and energy source. Overnight stay at Sigiriya Estimated driving time/distance:  8 km / approximately 15 minutes per way Meal included: Breakfast
After breakfast, this morning proceeds to the hill country.  En-route enjoy the visit to a Sri Lankan Garden. In a rural village in Matale, your planter host will teach you about the trees, crops and local style of cooking as you journey around the farm. The Sri Lankan Garden is a particularly picturesque farm spread over 15 and a half acres towards the top of a mountain so that it boasts incredible views of the Aluvihare Mountains.  You are greeted by your host with farm sourced fresh juice and taken on a guided walk where you can learn about the garden’s collection of Sri Lankan produce, from pepper to papaya, cocoa to coconut and mango to mahogany.  After observing these crops growing, enjoy the fruits of the planters’ labor with a traditionally prepared rice and curry lunch. Arrive in Kandy and check in at your hotel. Estimated driving time/distance:  95 km / approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes Meal included: Breakfast
Spend the morning at leisure. In the afternoon enjoy the city tour of Kandy. Kandy’s lovely centerpiece is Kandy Lake. An artificial lake 4 kilometres in circumference, it was created in 1807 by Sri Wickrama Rajasinha, the last ruler of the kingdom of Kandy.  The island in the centre was used as his personal harem, to which he crossed on a barge. Later the British used it as an ammunition store and added the fortress style parapet around the perimeter. The town centre, close to the lake is a delightful jumble of old shops, antique and gemstones specialists, a bustling market, and a good selection of restaurants.  End your day with a visit to Dalada Maligawa - the Buddhist ‘Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic’, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage site partly due to this temple.   Note: when visiting religious places the guest should remove their footwears, hence would recommend having separate pair of socks. Please dress accordingly (linen clothes). Wear a hat and ensure you are protected from the sun. Tip: If you would like to experience a local pooja ceremony pay a visit Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic during 05:30 – 07:00 hours / 09:30 – 11:00 hours / 18:30 – 20:00 hours.
